Mentoring boys to grow with care, clarity, and courage

MU mentors boys aged 11-18 in the UK to develop good character, pursue excellence in their studies and future careers, and contribute positively to wider society.

The MU Mentorship Programme is a year-long education journey for boys aged 11-18. Rooted in Islamic values and open to boys from all backgrounds, the programme helps students grow in good character, academic skills, and emotional intelligence.

The programme consists of: (i) online group sessions, (ii) in-person enrichment trips, and (iii) personalised mentoring support.

Online Group Sessions – The PAGE Curriculum
The MU programme delivers online group sessions throughout the year, structured into four terms, with each term focusing on one module of the PAGE curriculum:
• Purpose (Sep – Nov) - Students explore and discuss key questions of purpose, personal responsibility, and positive contribution to society.
• Awareness (Nov – Jan) - Students learn about a wide range of productive career paths to develop their awareness of the opportunities open to them after they finish school.
• Good Grades (Mar – May) - Students are taught about practical study techniques and revision tools to strengthen their academic performance.
• Emotional Intelligence (May – Jul) - Students reflect on case studies of emotional intelligence from the Prophets of God in the Qur’an, peace be upon them, and consider how these qualities can be applied in their own lives.

In-Person Trips
• Students are invited to attend in-person enrichment trips throughout the year. These experiences give students the opportunity to connect with mentors and peers in person, develop aspiration, and reflect on their personal growth beyond the online sessions.
• Previous trips have included guided tours of the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics, as well as hikes through Regent’s Park, London.

Personalised Mentoring Support
• 1-on-1 Coaching Calls - Students receive one-on-one coaching calls throughout the year - to help clarify their educational goals and develop practical strategies for achieving them.
• Essay Writing Feedback - Students complete essay writing projects to strengthen communication skills - with personalised feedback from a Cambridge University graduate mentor.
• Personal Development Report - Every student receives an end-of-year report – highlighting unique strengths, areas for improvement, and next steps for their journey towards excellence.

Sulaiman Iqbal
‍
Sulaiman Iqbal is the founder of Mentoring United, and serves as a mentor on the MU Mentorship Programme. He studied History (BA) at the University of Cambridge and Public Policy (MSc) at the LSE before qualifying as a trainee solicitor at a global law firm.
‍
Sulaiman later trained as a teacher, completing his PGCE and QTS at a leading boys’ grammar school in London. He also founded Team UPside, an educational charity established in 2019 to support young people in the UK with their GCSE and A-Level revision and university applications, and was recognised with the Diana Award in 2022 for his community service.
‍
Moreover, his personal experience of growing up in a fatherless household has instilled in him empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting young people from all backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

His work brings together experience across education, law, and social impact, with a particular focus on helping young people develop good character and contribute positively to wider society.

Saadadeen Monajed

Saadadeen Monajed is the co-founder of Mentoring United and serves as a mentor on the MU programme. He studied Law and Theology at the University of Cambridge before completing an MA in Legal and Political Theory at University College London as an Aziz Scholar.

Alongside his academic and professional path, Saadadeen has extensive teaching and coaching experience across both primary and secondary settings, having worked in a number of different schools. He enjoys building on his understanding of how young people learn and develop at different stages, and researching different pedagogical approaches to mentoring.

Saadadeen is currently a trainee solicitor at a Magic Circle law firm, before which he founded and ran for 7 years Language in the Community, a charity which supported refugees to learn the English language. He brings together academic insight, professional experience, and a strong commitment to faith, mentoring, and community service to help young people develop good character and strong leadership skills.

The MU Mentorship Programme is open to boys aged 11-18 from all backgrounds across the UK. While the programme is rooted in Islamic values, we welcome students from all backgrounds who are respectful of its faith-inspired ethos. We sincerely believe the programme’s focus on character, academic excellence, and community service is universally beneficial.  

o Priority Applicants:
Students from single-parent households, those receiving Free School Meals, and those attending state schools will be considered high-priority candidates.

o Please note:
At present, the programme is unable to accommodate students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to current capacity and experience limitations.

o Selection Process:
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a brief interview. This will help us assess their commitment to character development, academic excellence, and community service.

The programme fees are £40 per month. Limited financial assistance is available for those who need additional support.

Mentoring United is a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), and all programme fees contribute directly to the sustainable development and delivery of the organisation.
