Why mentoring united?

The challenges we're here to solve

Shortage of
role models
A lack of accessible, positive male role models limits opportunities for boys to develop strong character, through real-life example.
Fragmented
education
An education system that prepares boys to pass exams, but fails to equip them with the skills and virtues to become principled and productive men.
Faith-life
disconnect
Difficulty integrating faith into everyday life, leaving many young men without a clear sense of direction and purpose.

Common questions

What does MU do?

MU mentors boys aged 11-18 in the UK to strive for excellence in their studies, careers, and communities - as they journey from boyhood to manhood during their secondary school years.

How does the MU programme work in practice?

The MU Mentorship Programme runs yearly and consists of: (i) online group sessions, (ii) in-person enrichment trips, and (iii) personalised mentoring support.

Online Group Sessions – The PAGE Curriculum
The MU programme delivers 24 online group sessions per year, structured into four terms, with each term focusing on one module of the PAGE curriculum:
• Purpose (Sep – Oct) - Students consider their purpose and mission in life as young people committed to achieving positive impact in the UK.
• Awareness (Nov – Dec) - Students learn about a wide range of career paths and opportunities open to them after they finish school.
• Good Grades (Apr – May) - Students are taught practical study techniques and revision tools to strengthen academic performance.
• Emotional Intelligence (Jun – Jul) - Students reflect on the emotional intelligence of the Prophets of God in the Quran, peace be upon them, and how to apply these qualities in their own lives.

In-Person Trips
• Twice a year, students are invited to attend an in-person enrichment trip (previous trips have included a hike in nature and a guided tour of Cambridge University).

Personalised Mentoring Support
• 1-on-1 Coaching Calls - Twice a year, students receive a one-on-one coaching call – to help clarify their personal goals and develop practical strategies for achieving them.
• Essay Writing Feedback - Students complete four writing projects, per year, to strengthen communication skills - with personalised feedback from a Cambridge University graduate mentor.
• Personal Development Report - Every student receives an end-of-year report – highlighting unique strengths, areas for improvement, and next steps for their journey towards excellence.

Who will be delivering the MU programme?

The MU programme will be delivered by Mr Sulaiman Iqbal. An individual committed to supporting young people to achieve their full potential and live God-centred lives.

Mr Sulaiman Iqbal honed his academic skills during his time at institutions such as Cambridge University, LSE, and Law School (BPP & ULaw). With a love for coaching young people, he brings practical experience in facilitating reflective discussions.

As the Founder of Team UPside, an award-winning educational charity, he spent four years supporting students in the Ealing, West London community and as a result was honoured with the Diana Award in 2022.

Furthermore, his personal background growing up in a fatherless household has instilled in him empathy and a genuine commitment to serve young people from underserved backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

The MU programme represents a culmination of Sulaiman's years worth of lived experience and community service.

He stands ready to support boys in the UK as they embark on their journey from boyhood to manhood during their secondary school years.

What students should apply to the MU programme?

The MU Mentorship Programme is open to boys aged 11-18 from all backgrounds across the UK. While the programme is rooted in the Islamic faith tradition, it is open to all boys as we believe its teachings and values are universally beneficial.

o Priority Applicants:
Students from single-parent households, those receiving Free School Meals, and those attending state schools will be considered high-priority candidates.

o Please note:
At present, the programme is unable to accommodate students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to current capacity and experience limitations.

o Selection Process:
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a brief interview, where their commitment to character development, academic excellence, and community service will be assessed.
